Police Chief Dennis Cupp

Dennis Cupp is a life long resident of Moberly and is the son of the late Raymond and Mary Cupp. He attended Moberly Public Schools graduating from Moberly High School in 1973. He received his Associate of Arts Degree from Moberly Area Community College in 1975 and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State) in Kirksville, in 1977.

Dennis Cupp is a 30 year veteran of the Moberly Police Department. He was appointed to the Moberly Police Department on March 6, 1977. He served as a Patrol Officer with the department until 1980 when he was promoted to Detective. In 1982 he was promoted to Detective Sergeant and in 1984 he was promoted to Captain. As a Captain he served as a Watch Commander and later as Detective Captain with the department.

Cupp was selected as a recipient of the Outstanding Young Missourian Award presented by the Missouri Jaycees in 1984.

In 1993 he was promoted to Major/Assistant Chief of Police. In 1998 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel/Assistant Chief of Police.

Lt. Colonel Cupp has received training from several different institutions that include: Missouri State Highway Patrol, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Harry S. Truman Police Academy, University of Missouri, St. Louis City & County Police Academy, Missouri Police Chiefs Association, Missouri Sheriff Association along with numerous others institutions.

In 1999 Lt. Colonel Cupp attended the prestigious and nationally recognized ten week Police Management School, School of Police Staff & Command, which was presented by Northwestern University. Lt. Colonel Cupp was a graduate of the 127th class.

Lt. Colonel Cupp is a Certified Generalist Police Instructor in the State of Missouri through the Police Officer Standards and Training Commission. He is an Adjunct Instructor at the Moberly Area Community College Law Enforcement Academy.  He served as Vice-Chair of the college’s Law Enforcement Advisory Committee and is a member of the Career-Vocational Committee.

Cupp is a member of the Missouri Police Chiefs Association and serves as regional Vice President, Missouri and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He has served in the past as Region 4 Coordinator for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and Troop B Director for the Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Advisory Committee with the Missouri Division of Highway Safety.
